We're well into the New Year but I'd like to share these vintage Asian postcards celebrating past years of the rabbit. It amazes me how many ways artists through the decades have portrayed the creatures.
Heather said it before me. Dang. Some of them are kinda creepy. Some of them are adorable. And one reminds me of the animation in the film Watership Down. LOL!
"Nanabush (the teacher from native legends) had powerful magic to give special powers to the animals and plants. He was also a Trickster, and could change form and take the shape of an animal whenever he chose. Nanabush had one of these animal parts even as a human. As drawn on rocks and carved in stone by our Ojibwa ancestors, was his rabbit-like ears." Happy T13!
Interesting how even though they are all drawn very differently, they still seem to embody the same color palette and hues while yet projecting very different moods.
It's interesting how some are really cool, and others a little creepy. Thanks for sharing them, Darla!
